Merit making in Chiang Mai, Thailand

An intrinsic part of the Thai way of life is ‘making merit’ by giving Alms (food & drink, etc.) to the local Monks wearing saffron robe walking out of the Temple. Throughout their lives, Thai people strongly believe in karmic giving, the act of regularly providing aid, assistance and donations to bring happiness and a peaceful life to others. By doing so, they believe that they earn good will, gaining the strength needed to overcome any obstacles or misfortunes that life may present and accumulating merits that will help them to be in a peaceful place when life draws to a close.
